Strathcona Park is the inner-SW alternative to the newer westside executive communities. Established 1980s through mid-1990s, the housing stock has seen continuous renovation and many original homes have been substantially updated.
The community sits east of Sarcee Trail in the loop bounded by Bow Trail, 17 Avenue, and the southern slope down to Edworthy Park. Lot sizes trend larger than Signal Hill and the streetscape reads more residential and less recently planned.
For upsizers from inner-city detached or starter SW, Strathcona Park offers a comfortable transition because the lot size and mature trees feel similar to inner-city. For downsizers from Aspen Woods or Springbank Hill, the larger interior lots and shorter downtown commute (~16 minutes off-peak) are real advantages.
Three schools sit inside Strathcona Park. Olympic Heights and Dr. Roberta Bondar cover K–6 on the public side, John Costello Catholic School the same grades on the Catholic side. Ernest Manning High School is 1.3km west in Springbank Hill, and Rundle College runs its junior senior high the same distance away.
Strathcona Park has 3 schools inside the community boundary, listed first below.

School names, addresses and grade ranges come from the City of Calgary open data catalogue, retrieved 2026-09-14. This is where the schools are, not which one a given address is zoned for. Attendance areas are set by address and get redrawn between years, so confirm yours with the CBE school finder or the Calgary Catholic school finder before you write an offer.
Edworthy Park access on the southern edge is a daily lifestyle benefit. 17 Avenue West retail is a short drive. The community is quieter than Signal Hill or Aspen Woods because there is no shopping anchor inside the community itself.
Educational. Specific street, school area, and price outcomes depend on the property and current Calgary market segment. Always verify school areas with the Calgary Board of Education or Calgary Catholic School District for your exact address.
